| The
majority of APPA member physicians
participate in very few or
no managed care plans. Some
participate in a small number
of PPO plans and very few HMOs. Reimbursement
for services has dropped to
such an extent that high quality
outpatient care cannot be
provided by physicians participating
in these plans. |
| Nonetheless,
the majority of patients seeing
APPA physicians are covered
by managed care plans. A
few cover the entire physician’s
fee. Most
pay only 50% of the fee paid
to a contracted physician. Most
HMOs pay nothing to non-contracted
physicians. |
